Cop Risks His Life to Stop Gutkha Smugglers
He clung to the roof of a speeding SUV travelling at over 100 km/h for nearly 40 kilometres.
Head Constable M. Velmurugan was trying to stop an SUV allegedly carrying gutkha and illegal tobacco when the driver sped away. Instead of giving up, he climbed onto the roof and held on despite the speed, threats and injuries.
After a long chase, police finally stopped the SUV and recovered around 230 kg of gutkha and tobacco products. Three alleged smugglers were arrested. When asked if he was scared, Velmurugan reportedly said, “I am a policeman. It is my job.”
