Kharad, an ancient craft of the nomadic communities in Kutch, Gujarat, reflects a rich cultural legacy.
Traditionally crafted from goat and camel hair wool provided by the Maldhari and Rabari pastoralists, Kharad carpets are a testament to the artisans’ deep connection to their environment.
Every vibrant colour and intricate pattern woven into these durries tells a story, preserving a tradition that has been passed down through generations.
But the craft faces a steady decline, with only a few families, like Hirabhai’s, striving to keep it alive.
