24 Hours Inside Mumbai’s Plastic Crisis: Beach Trash to School Desks

18,000 kg of plastic. 1,500+ volunteers. One Mumbai beach.
And then, it all became School Benches.
Mumbai’s beaches are drowning in plastic. Every year, 5 million kg of plastic enters the Arabian Sea from Mumbai alone. The Better India decided to fight back.

We mobilised 1,500+ volunteers for a single beach cleanup — and followed the waste from the shore to a recycling facility, where marine plastic is cleaned, segregated and transformed into school benches for children across Maharashtra.

And here’s the best part: by watching this video, you’ve already contributed to India’s next cleanup drive. The proceeds from this video will help fund our next cleanup.
